Cna stands for Certified Nursing Assistant. Some are also called Nurse Aides.  Of all nursing jobs CNA is the most demanding in terms of physical exertions.  I've met a CNA inside a post office at one time. She was working as a personal CNA for a very rich old woman, but she has to quit because her doctor told her she could not manage another lift. Her back would give out on her. She boasted that she earned a very good wage and regretted that she could not continue her job.

In general a CNA job duties consist of bathing, feeding, dressing, walking assistance, serving meals, check for patient's vital signs, skin care, and they need to report any changes to the medical staff.

To become a CNA you will need to have at least a high school diploma.  You will also need to take the state exam and get certified before you can work as CNA.  According to the Federal Government guidelines, if you work at nursing homes you must complete a competency exam, and you must at least gain 75 hours of approved training.

You can expect to have a very rewarding career as CNA.  Your salary is probably between $25,000 to $28,000 a year. Some can get paid higher if you are employed to work for some rich family.

CNA jobs are due to increase by as much as 28% by 2010.
